Ordered new from Maranello Concessionaires Ltd, by then Ferrari agents, Hartshill Autos of Stoke-on-Trent, on the 9th December 1977 for the following March production, in “Azzurro metallizato” with blue hide and carpets, with air conditioning and wide wheels. Given the order number S/019, and ordered on the factory by Maranello Concessionaires Ltd’s managing director, Sean Bealey, on the 13th December 1977.It took the factory until the 22nd February 1978 to confirm the order for a Azzurro metallizato 106-A-32 Salchi with blue VM3015 hide and blue carpets. However by the 22nd March 1978 the car was built and invoiced to Maranello Concessionaires Ltd, for delivery by truck to the UK. In turn the car was invoiced to Harsthill Autos, on the 10th May 1978 by Maranello Concessionaires Ltd, which included a full size spare wheel at £30, and five gallons of petrol at £4.50!
First registered, YRF 444S, on the 1st May 1978 to Mr John Kaiser of London E18-apparently not the former HR Owen sales manager- by Hartshill Autos. The then (1st May1978) list price of £16,499.34–plus delivery, number plates and road tax-was added to with air conditioning £600.21,metallic paint £280.80 and 7.5” wide wheels £280.80.
It was next registered to Mr Howard Ferguson of Leicestershire, on the 26th July 1979, now being registered OPW 3.This may well have been done in order to facilitate the registration transfer of OPW 3, as at that time both the donor and recipient vehicle had to be in the same persons name In any event it was registered Mr Peter Williamson Leicester,-a then past 246 GT owner- five days later on the on the 31st July 1979,
Ownership passed to Mr Bryan Cooke of Derbyshire, on the 1st April 1982,who re-registered the car 3VY.On the 21st July 1986,Ferrari dealers Graypaul of Leicestershire applied for a registration document in their name ,removing the registration number 3VY,which was replaced with the current registration number WYN 280S.The car was registered to Mr Robert Valentine of London on the 1st August 1986,who kept the car until the following March when it was registered to Ferrari specialist dealer West One-Barry Chadwick- of London W1.Barry Chadwick would have “traded” the car the to then Ferrari agents in Surrey, Modena Engineering Ltd.
It was purchased by Mr Ray Tudgay of Hampshire on the 1st July 1987, with 36,578 recorded miles, from myself, then of Modena Engineering Ltd, for £23,130 taking his 308 GT4 in part-exchange for £12,130.Mr Tudgay, still a Ferrari owner with a 355 GTS, sold the car in 1991 via then Ferrari agents, Nigel Mansell Sports Cars of Dorset, to Mr William Grafton of Hampshire on the 12th July 1991.Having spoken to Mr Tudgay he was able to confirm that due to the speedometer being erratic he supplied Mansells with a new one for fitting. Apparently the original speedometer showed 50,000 recorded miles.
Next purchased and registered to, Mr, Doron Green of Hertfordshire, on the 7th April 1993, with 7,733 recorded miles. It was owned by Mr Green for just over three years, using London Ferrari agents HR. Owen and DK Engineering of Watford, to maintain it.
Purchased and registered to Mr Max Edwards of Norfolk, on the 20th August 1996, now with 23,000 miles recorded-plus the old speedometer mileage. During Mr Edwards ownership, the car underwent a photographic ally recorded bare metal re-paint during March/ April 1999, by Vale Cottage Motors of London costing £7,593.49.Maintenance was carried out by Lancasters and Stratton Motor Co which included a gearbox overhaul in October 1997 by Stratton Motor Co. Mr Edwards re-registered the car GBZ 33.
The last owner, Mr Colin Dale of Surrey, bought it on the 1st August 2000 for £21,175 with 35,500 miles now recorded. Following an inspection by the Ferrari specialists, Talacrest of Egham, Surrey, a full service plus- including cam belts and valves clearances-a “snagging list”. Talacrest carried on maintaining the car for Mr Dale until the demise when QV Motors took over annual maintenance. Much money has been spent by Mr Dale maintaining the car both mechanically and cosmetically. The car came to us in part-exchange for a Ferrari Mondial 3.4t.
